THE MINISTER OF EDUCATION.

[press association telesram.l AUCKLAND, March 25. A deputation of the Board of Education waited on Mr Fisher this morning, and asked when the balance of the vote for school buildings would be distributed. The Minister said Government had' not distributed the whole of the £30,000 voted last year for that purpose, because Mr Fisher thought the present system of dividing on the population basis unsatisfactory. Many districts were insufficiently supplied with school buildings, and would remain so under the present system. Tarn Education Department were considering * better method of distribution, when their deliberations were interrupted by the illness of Mr Habens. In the meantime money was being granted where most pressingly required. On the Minister's return to Wellington he promised, if possible, to send Auckland a share of the money. The Board of Education considered the £5000 required would enable them to undertake most necessary works. Mr Fisher added the poorer educational districts were those of Wellington, Wanganui, Taranaki and Auckland, all of which were far behind the South Tsland districts. He would be in Wellington in two dayß* time, and give attention to the request of the Auckland Board.
