BOATING FATALITY.
[PRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.}
INVERCARGILL, January 20.
David McGillivray, aged twelve years, son of a carpenter living near the jetty, lost his life yesterday in the estuary, some miles from the town. Deceased went out in a sailing boat with a party of young boys, and was struck on the head and knocked overboard by the boom, the halyards having given way as the boat was going about. No clear account of the occurrence can be got from his companions, but from the fact that the boom, a heavy one, broke on his head, it is probable that the boy was stunned and disabled' for any attempt to keep afloat. Al bob of Mr Mussen, Grown Lands Banger, was thrown into the river at the same time, but swam till picked up. McGillivray had only recently recovered from severe injuries sustained in a fall through a trap door in the upper floor of a flour mill. The body has not been recovered.
