CUST ROAD BOARD.
The usual monthly meeting of thta Board was held on Monday, the I4fch InsL, Present—The Chairman and all the members. Correspondence was read from the West Eyreton Road Board advising that the bridge near Mr Hunter's is unsafe for heavy traffic, but will do for a time for ordinary traffic, and that & notice bad been put on the bridge cautioning persons against using it, and expressing the opinion that it will be better to replace it with concrete, a ford being objectionable, as the creek is nearly always running. It ■ was decided to reply that this Board agrees to the notice being placed on the bridge, but is still of opinion thai a ford will be best, as the creek ia shallow, and a ford would allow the water to get away better, which would help to prevent the flooding of the boundary, road. Mr A. Peebles, complained of gorse being allowed to spread on the main drain and road reserve. The Clerk was instructed to give the owners of the adjoining sections notice to clear the gorse. With regard to the proposed amendments in the Public Works Act, the Board is of opinion that it will be better to let the clauses relating to the clearing of gorse off the road sides remain as they are, except the sending of notices which is unnecessary, as a public notice inserted annually in a newspaper ought to be artDcient, the present system of tending *gg* tered letters entailing a considerable & amount of expanse oil the local Tenders for braking stonw on various ro\da were ordered to be invited for MondayTHst instant. Accounts. £17 IfeftL wen passed for payment, and the Board adjourned.
