Wednesday/. Fairly large entries df cattle, large entries of sheep and lambs, and a small entry of pigs made up tho day's market. The attendance was large, and the weather fine. Fat Cattlk.—About an average entry, quality varied, in a few cases prime, but on the whole hardly up to the usual level. The demand was sluggish, and a farther drop on late values is to be recorded. Prime bullocks sold at from j≤6 to £7; medium weights, £7 2s 6d to £5 15s; heifers and fat cows, £3 2s 6d to £4 10s, being at from 15s to about 17s per 1001b, according to quality. Messrs Matson astd Co. sold, for Mr P. Henley, 13 bullocks from £6 7s 6d to,£7; for Mr J. Lambie, 4 steers at £6 10s; for Mr Fisk, 6 steers £5 2s6dto £5 6s; for MrHoft, 1 cow at £3 17b 6d; for Mr J. Green, 8 head heifers at £4 10b; for Mr Blake, 5 steers at £8 15s ; for Mr Greaves, 3 head £4 12s 6d to £8 15s; for Mr Dunlop, 3 cows at £310s; for Mr A. S. Bull, 1 cow at £3 12s 6d; for Mr Jas. Hayward, 6 heifers at £4 17s6dto£t$2s 6d, and 6 steers £315s to £4 7s 6d; for Mr T. Townend, 1 cow £3 ss, and 9 head at £410s. Messes Bennetts Bros, sold for Mr G. Ferguson 3 heifers £4 2s Gd to£4 7s6d; for Mr Walker, heifers to £4 7a Gd: for Mr Stevens, 11 steersat£6lls; for Mr Bryant, steers at £6 Sβ, heifers £410s to £5 ss.
Store Cattle—A moderate entry, principally odd lota. The demand was fairly active, more particularly for young stock, well grown forward conditioned cattle being hard to quit. Values remain much the same as before.
Daibt Cattle.—A small entry; a pretty fair demand showing. Good cows, in immediate profit, sold at from £5 12s 6d to £815s: second and third rate £3 to £4. Messrs Matson and Co- sold, on account Mr P. Callaghan, 12steers at £4 as; account Mr KTownshend, 12 head at £4 os and 3 head at £3 16s; account Mr B. Gallagher, 8 head at from 37s to £3 3s; account T.H. Green, cows at from £2 03 to £3155.
Veai. Calves—A moderate entry, and prices a shade better. Good calves sold at from 15s to 18s 6d, medium 5s to 7s ($&. Fat Sheep—-Another very large entry yarded, the quality being:, as usual, very varied, with, however, a good proportion of prime quality. The demand, however, cannot cope with such repeated large supplies, and values again gave way to some extent compared with last week's prices, and a good number were passed out unsold. Prime crossbred wethers sold at from Us 3d to 11s 6d, medium from 8s to Rs Od; crossbred ewes at from as 6d to 9s Gd; merino wethera at from 4s lid to Os 2d, being at from IJd to lfd per lb, according to quality. The sale began for the first time at half-past ten o'clock to about an average attendance of buyers. The enquiry was. however, anything but active, a good number of the sheep being passed unsold, vendors declining to accept the reduced values now offered. Idixed two-tooths sold at from 6s 3d to 7s ; ewes and lambs, all counted, at 4s lid, &c. The following are the sales made :— Messrs Bennetts Bros, sold:—For Mr C. Values, however, were fairly well upheld, considering the immense number ottering. Frimest sold at from 8s to 9s; medium, 6s 6d to 7s 6d; inferior, 5s to 5s 6d.
