Dr. Lemon forwarls the following, received by Mr Todd, Superintendent of Trlegraphs, South Australia, from the Cable Company's representative at Porfc Darwiu s —" The Secretary wires thut tho Board ie too well aware of tlio effect of the .present interruption-:, which have caused them profound annoyance. Mr Todd must, however, be awwe of the exceptional difficulties' whicii wo have recently encountered, and the Company has done everything possible to minimise the inconvenience. If tha colonies depended on a single Pacific line they would be infinitely worse off. The Oeborne met with grent.difficulties, but completed the renewals of the original cable on the afternoon of the 29th. On the 21st, when the duplicate cable wu3 broken, the Company sent out n boat from Banjoewangi to search fo* the Osborne to »end her to repair it. Tho boat returned arter being out nine weeVa. The search was fruitless. The Company were in great anxiety over the interruption, and the silence of the Oeborne, and dispatched the Eecorder from Singapore, on the 25th. She reached the Oeborna just as ehe was putting , thsoagii thj original cable on the 296b."
