RICCARTON TRAINING NOTES.

Yesterday a grand morning brought out trainers early, and Webster was the first to show. He sent Water Baby and Tit a couple of miles, the pair going at a fair pace between several furlong posts. Lorraine did a really satisfactory gallop of two miles and a half, in which he was accompanied by British Lion. The last round the steam was put on, and the Maria Theresa colt was in good form. Maligner had a mile and a half at half pace. Vandal, who was sent three times round, was hunted along by Golden Crest for part of the journey, and she succeeded in making a fairly merry pace for the colt. Dunkeld and Helmsman went slow and fast alternately, in fairly long work. St. Clair was restricted to gentle exercise and walking. Half-Guinea pleased the spectators in a strong mile gallop. Merrie England and another cantered, and then spun out half a mile. Ex change was told off to accompany Engager merit for a mile and a half at a good pace ; and taking charge of his boy, he left the filly some distance in the rear. Chain Shot and Son of a Gun moved -at threequarter pace over twelve furlongs. Butler treated Adulation to a two-mile gallop, the pace being average, aDd Repose went half a mile at top. The Bribery filly and Dandenong did similar work to Adulation. Manton, appearing a good bit lighter—the effects of his northern trip—was out later Oα doing moderate work, and looked hearty and well. The old thief, Patrician, had not much to do to best Vinco in his two mile and a half gallop at top speed. Premier and Preston were companions in useful two-mile work, in which the former looked the best. Idalia and Catamount were cantering together with a mild flutter occasionally, out Sultan was only walking. Sykes and Rosebud were sent two miles, the last at top. All the young ones of the various stables were out during the morning, but did nothing of importance.
