NAPIER PARK RACES.

[PRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM. J NAPIER, October 10. The Napier Park races to-day was favored by splendid weather. The attendance was large, and the racing was excellent, but boil overs were the order of the day, the favorites being out of it. Consequently the dividends were good. Results :— Free Handicap, of 50 sove. One mile. Mr B resford's oh c Leopold, 3 yra, Tsc lilb .: 1 Mr Munn's b m Waterfall, 7st 91b .. .. 2 Mr Knko's br m Balista. 4 yrs, 7st 101b .. 3 Kacapade, Soudtui, Corsair, and Pretender also started. From a capital start Corsair got away slightly in front of Pretender with Balista, Waterfall, and Soudan next, while Escapade brought up the tail. Very slight alteration took place until the back of the course was reached. Balista here made a forward move, and Soudan began to drop hopelessly in the rear. At the hill, bend Leopold came up with determination, and soon had Pretender in difficulties. Entering the straight all the horses were under whip with the exception of Soudan, who was hopelessly out ot the hunt. Leopold had a slight advantage of Waterfall, who had come through his horses in magninccnt style, and a shout went up for the black son of Musket, but although he struggled gamely he could not quite get on terms with Leopold, who won a splendid race all out by half a length from Waterfall, Balista a length away third, with Pretender alongside of him. Then came Corsair and Escapade, while Soudan cantered in. Time, lmin 50 3-oth sec. Dividends, £310s, £3 18s. Handicap Hdrdlks, of TO soya. About two miles. Mr J. Heron's blk g Erebus, aged, by Treason, 9ec .. .. .. .. 1 Mr uharles Joyce's b g Premium, 6yre, Bst 131b (carried 71b over) 2 Mr A. Ellingham's eh g Harold, aged, Bst 81b {carried 31b over) .. .. ..3 Kautfaroo, Clyde, and Elastic also started. Erebus was the first away, followed by' Elastic, Premium, Harold, Clyde, and Kangaroo. The first and second jumps were taken in the same order, all the horses fencing excellently. At the hurdles at the hill iirebus and Elastic almost jumped together, with Premium and Clyde lying about three lengths off, with Harold next, while Kangaroo was last in the straight. Erebus got a length in front of Elastic before reaching the hurdle. The positions of the other horses were unchanged. The two leaders attain closed up at the back of the course, and almost rose at the same moment, Premium still lying three lengths away third. No change occurred until reaching the obstacle at the hill bend, when the horses began to close up. After this had been successfully negotiated it was questionable as to whether Premium, Harold, or Erebus would win. and shouts went up all over the ground first for one and then the other, and as a breach had been made in the last hurdle the three mentioned came at full racing pace to see which could get through. Premium, however, gained at the gap half a length in front of Srebus, who had the inside running, the same distance separating the latter from Harold, Kangaroo .being close up, while Elastic and Clyde, were beaten on. It looked now almost a certainty for Premium, bat his stable companion Erebus came again and won a good race by a length from him, with Harold four lengths away 3rd, Clyde-14th, Kangaroo sth, and Elastic last.
