Mcllwraith, Esqs.] Drunkenness.—Eliza Wilson, for this offence, was fined £1, or, in default, the usual alternative. ■ '■ ■- Alleged Larceny.—Mary Moxham was charged with stealing 10s from the person of Joseph Barnes. Barnes and a witness required by the police did not appear, and the prisoner was remanded till the following day for thftir attendance. Dalton was charged with assaulting Jas. Haughey, at bt. Albans, on October Ist. Mr McConnel appeared for plaintiff. The evidence was that defendant's cOWs having trespassed on plaintiff's potato patch, some words passed between the parties, when Dalton seized Haughey by the throat and knocked him down. He was fined iOs with solicitor's fee and costs. Dismissed. —. Honora Sabey charged James Patterson with having used obscene language to her at Halswell on September 10th. Mr Leathern appeared for" the plaintiff, Mr McConnel for the defendant. The evidence of the plaintiff, and two witnesses she called, did not support the charge, and the case was dismissed, plaintiff to pay solicitor's fee and costs. LYTTELTON. [Before S. B. Webb and T. McClatchie, Esqs., J.P.'s] Friday, October 5, Assault.—Samuel Bruce was charged with assaulting his wife, who appeared and asked that the Bench would deal leniently with accused. He was bound over to keep the peace for twelve months in two sureties, or, in default, six months' imprisonment. . Drunkenness. —Charles Rawnsley, an old offender, was fined 40s or, in default, ninety-six hours' imprisonment. SHEFFIELD. Wednesday, October 3. [Before J. P. Jameson, James A. McIlraith, Geo. Rutherford, and A. D. Mcllraith, Esqrs,, J.P.'s.] Protection of Animals Act. —Wm. Joines was charged on the information of Constable -Weatherley with shooting a hare on September sth. Defendant admitted the .charge, and was fined 20s and costs '7s. Civil Cases.—The adjourned case J. Jebson, junior v George Hamill (judgment sumnions), was heard, claim £1 16s lid. Defendant did not appear, and an order was made that the amount be paid at once, or in default seven days' imprisonment. - , - ••
