CHRISTCHURCH. Friday, August 3L [Before J. Ollivier, Esq., R.M., and P. Cunningham, Esq., J.P.] ]_:_(•—u__ntO—. —J. R. Rosewarne, for allowing a chimney in his house in Colombo street to take fire, was fined ICs.— For keeping unregistered dogs, R. Harley was fined 10s; Wm. Kate (2), £1; and S. Nosworthy, 10s each, with costs 7a. Rescuing a Horse.—G. Legg, S. Legg, and Mrs McTeague were charged with rescuing, on August 14th, from tne ranger at Prebbleton, a horse which was being driven to the pound. R. Mackie, ranger, stated that on the date named he found a horse grazing on the road. He tied his whip lash round its neck and proceeded to drive it to the pound, when the defendants came up. One of the men took out a knife and threatened to rip the ranger up, but finally cut the whip and the mare was driven away. Much bad language was used, and all the defendants had a share in getting the horse away. For the defence, Mrs McTeague swore that she was driving the mare home from a paddock, when the ranger came up and was taking it away. She called oat, and the men came up and remonstrated with the ranger. While the talk was going on the mare got loose and made its way home. After hearing tho evidence tendered by the other defendants, the Bench dismissed the case with a caution.
