AN ABSCONDING TREASURER.
(PRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGBAM.I AUCKLAND, August 30. A special meeting of the Auckland Amateur Athletic and Bicycling Club was held last night at the Imperial Hotel, when it was announced that almest the whole of the funds of the Club had been misappropriated by the Treasurer, who has snddenly left the colony. An audit of the year's accounta took place recently, when a sum of £177 was shown to the credit of the Club, but when the Auditors applied to the Savings Bank after the departure of the Treasurer, a certain certificate not having been obtained, the discover? was made that the latter had diverted almost all the funds of the Club to his own use. After considerable discussion, it was resolved that the consideration of the question -of criminally prosecuting the Treasurer be deferred till the annual meeting next week, the Committee meanwhile to take legal advice as to the powers of the Club to prosecute.
