THE MORALE OF LAWN TENNIS.
Certain of the good folks of Manchester have been varying lamentations over the "unlovcliness" of their city by solemn contentions about the virtues or vices ot k.wn tennis. It appears that the ball was set rolling by somebody who wrote to a local paper and styled himself " One of the Democracy." This gentleman, It seems, incidentally alluded to lawn tennis as "effeminate," and declared that it did not need nearly so much training as the more " manly" game of cricket. controvert.... eoine contenting themselves with the assertion that lawn tennis necessitates "real physical exertion," while others claim that it needs more than cricket doea, and Chat it requires, besides, much patience.
