I WELLINGTON, November 6. I Mr Vincent Pvke, M.H.8., has received advice, by cabled of the successful floating iii London of the Island Block GokTminine; Company at Cheviot, Otago, with a .capital of _30,Q00. Messrs Pyke and J. C. Brown, _LH.R."s, are appointed local directors. . ~._._ A large number of excursionists left for Christchurch in the Penguin last night and Wanaka this afternoon. A large crowd is expected to leave by the Manapouri to-morrow afternoon. The torpedo boat tost at the practice at Fort Ballancea few weeks ago has not been recovered. The indicator attached to the snout failed to work, and as the weapon floats level with the water and is almost the same colour, it has eluded observation. A strict search along the rocks shows that the torpedo has not reached shore yet, and there are hopes the first southerly- breeze may throw it up on oue of the sandy beaches. The reason of so much solicitude is that torpedoes are very costly, and there are only sis or seven in stock hero. With a loaded head they represent £272 each, with the dummy head, used for practice somewhat less. One reason of the heavy price is that the freight and insurance on these dangerous machines is extremely high. GREYMOUTH, November G. The Coalpitheath mine will start working again on Monday. . The wrestling match at Taylorvillc, on Saturday evening, between Ford and Lyons, resulted iv favour of Ford, who secured four falls out of seven. DUNEDIN, November o.
