We Jearn that Mr Barnett has decided not to retire from the contest for Akaroa, as was announced the other day. He will go to the poll, his Committee having offered to do all the necessary work in the meantime. Mr Flesher, one of the candidates for Linwood, addressed the electors at Shiriey last evening, there being a goodly number present. Sir J. Rowe presided, and briefly introduced the candidate. Mr Flesher then expressed his views on the leading political topics of the day, in the main reiterating those expressed by him in his previous addresses. During the delivery of his speech the candidate was frequently applauded. In answer to questions Mr Flesher stated that he had never, been a party to any attempt to close the Flock and Wool Works at Dudley Creek. He was opposed to Bibie - reading in schools. In order to meet the present deficiency, he would retrench wherever practicable, and raise the rest by additional taxation through the Customs. He wonld not support a sugar bounty. A vote of thanks and confidence was carried unanimously. A vote of thanks to the Chairman terminated the proceedings. A meeting of Mr A. Lougbrey's Committee was held last night at the Foresters' Hall, Richmond, when there was a large attendance, Mr. H. Allen in the chair. Thesub-committeesreported that they were re-canvassing their district, and found that the electors were stedfast in their promises of support to Mr Loughrey. The meeting adjourned until next Monday night. At a meeting of Mr Blake's Committee, held in the Selwyn street Committee ] rooms on Tuesday last, it was resolved that in future, during the election, the j Committee meet three times weekly.' A meeting of Mr Garrick's Committee ] will be held at the Merivale schoolroom this evening at 7.30. The following candidates will speak this evening:—Mr Enys, at Courtenay; Mr Blake, at Harewood road. A meeting of Mr Blake's supporters will be held this evening in the Papanui Town Hall. A meeting of delegates from the various sub-Committees of Mr E. G. Wright will 1 be held at the Committee rooms, Mr John Anderson's buildings, Cashel etreet, on Monday next, at 7.30 p.m. Mr Waiter Macfarlane has altered the dates of his-meetings at Rotherham and Hnrnnui, and will be at Rotherham on Wednesday, 14th, and Huranui on 15th. He speaks at Kaikoura on Wednesday, 21st . •••
