TARANAKI ITEMS.

[Bt Telegraph.]

[from our correspondent.]

NEW PLYMOUTH, September 6. The police heard from Inglewood this morning that an elderly man named G. M. Milne, a settler on the Durham road, had been missing from his home since Monday, August 29th. He is supposed to be lost in the bush. The man left his home on Monday week for the purpose of getting cattle, and that was the last seen of him by his family. He was on that day observed on the road by some people, it is said, and they noticed that he appeared to look not quite right, but seemed to be haggard and wild-looking. Information of the affair was only brought into Inglewood yesterday. Why the family delayed so long in reporting the loss is not known. The Land Board Ranger, reporting on deferred payment holders of sections in Cape Egmont, Kaupokonui, Carlyle and Ngaire survey districts, stated that out of the whole number of selectors eleven had failed to make all improvements required, but, excepting one, all could pass the second inspection at the end of fourth year, and there were five of them who had improved almost enough to pass the final inspection ; 4128 acres of the whole area of 8248 acres have been cleared and grassed. The value of improvements amount to £11.624.
