LINWOOD TOWN BOARD.

An ordinary meeting of this Board was held on Monday at T.ijO p.m. PresentMessrs Toomer (Chairman), .Jamieson, Atkinson, Smith, and Goodman. Apologies were received from Mr Hardie and llr Bergh, who were unwell. Correspondence was read:—From Mr R. Robinson, declining to pay the Board's claim for damage done to"St. James" street. Mr T. S. Weston, re Ranger v Frost, stating that defendant had apologised, and the case was withdrawn. Approved. Messrs Harper and Co., asking the Board's consent to new roads proposed to lie laid out hy Mr Brittan. Referred to Works Committee. Mr "W. B. Pyne and live others, re state of east end of Cashel street. Referred to Works Committee. Drainage Board, asking: this Board to fix settling boxes in river Avon where the side channels are drained into it. Received. Drainage Board, objecting; to Brittan's new roads being graded to drain to Tuam street, as it would only aggravate the existing evil in time of tloods. Referred to Works Committee. The Finance Committee reported--Receipts since last meeting. £12.S liis. Debtor balance at Bank. £210 8s (id. The accounts for August have been examined and found correct. Recommended that all rates unpaid on 20th September be sued for. Sundry accounts were presented for payment. The Committee also reported on the cost incurred in working the pound, and suggested that the pouudkeeper he written to on the subject. The report was adopted. The Board then sat. as the local Board of Health. Mr T. Birch wrote, complaining of stagnant water on land adjoining his in Cashel street. Referred to the Sanitary Committee. The Committee was also requested to report, upon the stagnant water in Phillip street on land belonging to an absentee. The Inspector's report, was read and approved, and the meeting adjourned.
