A SILVER CRADLE.
At the meeting of the Rangiora Borough Council on Friday Cr. Blackett, on behalf of the Council, rose and Baid that he had been requested to present the Mayor and Mrs Boyd with a silver cradle as a memento of an event which had occurred during Mr Boyd’s year of cffice, viz., the birth of a son. Tnis was tbe first presentation of the kind that had taken place in the Borough, but f rom the number of young and ambitioui Councillors then round the table, he anticipated that there would be an occasion for others in the future. He hoped the little fellow would live long and be a credit to the Borough. The cradle bore the following inscription Presented to Hugh Boyd, Esq., Mayor of Rangiori, 1886-7, by the Borough Council.” The Mayor, in acknowledging the presentation, said that he hod been quite taken by surprise. He was under the impression that the cradle was given only in case of the Mayoress having twins. [Laughter.] However, he would keep it as a memento of bis term of office, and he sincerely thanked toe Council on behalf of Mrs Boyd and himself tor the handsome present.
