LYTTELTON.
A special meeting of the Lyttelton Borough Ooasoil wu held in the Council Chambers, at soon, yesterday. Present— Hia Worship the M«yor (Mr A. Chalmers), and Councillor* Dimond, Stinson, MβDonald. AUwrfgbt, and McLellan. The meeting was to install Mr Allwriglit as Major. His Wohshb? t&id that during the past jear there had been a heavy drain on the revenue; notwithstanding which the financial position of the borough wm very satisfactory. Hie Worship, in retiring, thanked the Conpcillori aad cffioWe far the great assistance rendered to him daring hi* tern of efiee. Ct. Au.wßiaHTjnropoeed and Cr. Sim80S seconded—•" That a rote of thanls be recorded in the minutes for the valuable services rendered bj Mr Chalmers during the time he held the position of Major." Cra. McLbu&h, McDovaxb, and* Disk»d also paid a high tribute to Mr Chalmcn for the seal he had displayed. Mr Chalmers left the chair, which was taken by Mr Allwright, the new Mayor. The latter said he hoped he would receive the came support as hia predecessor. He meant to conduct the batiness with impartiality, and thought it should be more in conformity with Parliamentary rules. The meeting then adjourned.
