Abont two tons of pig iron having been recently missed from, the yard of Cruiekshajjk and Co., Commerce street, sone of the remaining iron was marked, and was last night found to have disappeared, and this morning Detective Herbert arrested three men, Simon Westell, Henry Willi ims, and Jamea Norris, in the act of selling the marked bars and others at 3d ase field's foundry. Priaoners appeared at the FoUce Court, and were remanded.
WELLINGTON, September 16. Mr C. A. Bichards, Head Master of the Government school, Lower Hutt, who wae plaintiff in a slander case heard in the Supreme Court last week, has resigned hia position. A case of Borne importance wag heard in the Hnpreme Conrt this morning. The plaintiff, one JPritchard, of Blenheim, bought in at a sale for £50 a property over which ho held a mortgage. The Stamp Office sought to charge him the duty on the whole value, £9000, which he resisted. Judge Richmond decided he was only liable to pay on £50. Mr Grubb,' late Postmaster at Napier, and now Assistant-Inspector of the Postoffice here, was presented, at 2.30 this afternoon, with 100 sovereigns, a silver Japanese bowl; and an address, by Mr Vogel, on behalf of the Napier eubicriben. HOKITJB-β., September Iβ. The Supreme Court Sessions concluded to-day. In the divorce case a decree was refused, both' patties having committed adultery. In the seduction case, a verdict was given for plaintiff for £75, with costs. Several appeals and private suits were also deilt with.

The Education Board have passed a resolution, instructing the Secretary to communicate with other Boards in the colony as to whether they are in favor of an exchange of Inspectors. The Ratepayers' Association have decided to being forward Mr B. H. Leary for the Mayoralty. They h&va also decided to ask the Mayor to call a meeting to consider the question of the drck trustThe Board of Education and the Minister of Education are not agreed on their views regarding the training school. The Board wisbea students to finish their education at the school sufficiently to take a certificate in Class C, but the Secretary of Education writes that Sir B. Stout objects to expending money in carrying on an education parallel to university- The Board also wished to distribute students among seven or eight of the best schools, bo that they would more readily acquire control over la<ge classes. The Minister is very doubtful of the success cf this plan, though not opposing it. Members of the Board were inclined to resent the refusal of the Education Department to accede to their request; but finally decided to interview the Minister before passing a resolution. Mr John McKenzie attends the Sheep Confer* nee vice Mr Copper. In the Divorce Court a decree nui was granted to Sarah Emma Kilpatriok against Joseph Kilpatrick, formerly auctioneer of Dunedin, on the ground of cruelty and desertion. Bespondent did not appear.
