The ordinary meeting oi this Hoard was he'd on the 6th inst. Present—Messrs Coup, Uirdling, and Bnchanan. In the absence of the Chairmun Mr Coup was voted to take the chair. Specifications issued hy tho Boird for r.-fori_ln_ Western Valley road acd curling meUl wero read and approved of, and tenders were opened for :mmo. The tender of T. McKen.ie, for re-forming Western Valley road, was accepted at _IU9, and that of W. ttewtoa, to cart mouu at Is 9d per yaid. "With reference to tho second section of Western Valley formation, the Clork was instructed to urge on the survey of the section, and hare tenders in, it possible, for the wor_ by next meeting. Tho Clerk waa instructed to attend to several repairs pointed out in his report. Corrosp jndence was received from tho Chief Surveyor, re survey Western Valley Road. From Besident Engineer, with permission to cart shingle from Police Beserve. From Treasurer that a sum of -62 10s, balance of subsidy from last year, and I-.00 on account of subsidy for ooKQiug yaar had been entered in Ban. to tho credit of tho Board. From Bank acknowledging receipt of above amounts. From Mr Wilkins, ro survey of road. From J. Miller, requesting that ho may bo permitted to remove cottages Irom the Board's Beserve at Ballye Bay on to the Boserv* at Gebhie's Valley. It |was resolved tl—fe as the former reserve was under lease tho Board could not grant this request. From Okain's Boad Board, acknowledging receipt of Board's circular of March last. Prom Property Tax Department re subsidy. From Mr W. Badger, soliciting on order for a copy of bis new local government guide and ratepayers' manual. It was resolved that a copy be procured. From akaroa County Council, inviting a deputation from this Board to attend at a meeting to be held at the Council's offices on the 7th to devise means of raising funds to repair damages lately caused in the district by fluods. It was resolved —That this Board attend tho Conference, at the same time that it is not advisable to go into borrowing, especially as this Board is of opinion that a general rate of }d in the £ and a special rate of id in the £ would bo sufficient to pay (or the whole of the necessary works in this district, both on county and district roads; and farther, that either the Council or Rood hoard ought to the whole of the roads in the district, and that the work should not be dividebetween the two bodies as at present j also, that the Council should pay charitable- aid, aud tbat alone, and act merely as .an executive body, aa * other county Councils So. It was resolved that notice be herewith givon that it ia the intention.of this Board, at its ne_t meeting, to make and levy a general rate of one half-penny in tho _ on all rateable property in the district for tho period from -Torch 31st. 1880. to March 31st, Ibe7. to become due and payable in one sum on tho liOth day of October ensning. Accounts were pasted for payment, and the Board adjourned to October 4th.
