THE N.S.W. RAILWAY FRAUDS.
_♦— £fbo_ OTJB OOBB—spondbnt.] [By Txt—obapb from t_b Bluff.} SYDNBY, July 1. In the Assembly to-day the railway frauds in connection with the carriage of wool were again referred to by Mr Abigail, who asked whether any summonses had reen issued and the names of the persons proceeded against. Tbe Attorney-General replied that criminal proceedings had been initiated against a person occupying a high position, and that it .was necessary to exercise great care in the matter. A summons had been issued that evening against Messrs Wright, Heaton and Co., Messrs Pearman, Wright and Co., and Messrs Lee and McA_ster. Some other cases might, perhaps; be dealt with at a later date, but it was not wise at present that tiie names should be .divulged. The informations issued state that the Commissioner of Bailways has grounds for believing that the parties named, at various times extending from 1880 to 1886, conspired to cheat and defraud the said Commissioner. The amounts are not mentioned in the summons, but it iB understood that the loss incurred by the department by the frauds, which extend over eight years, amount to between £12,000 and £16,000.
