PRESENTATION.
On Nov. 30th the officers and oatpbew of the City Guards met at their ords*ry room to present Major Wolfe, who has for -some years held the captaincy of the corn, with a small mark of their esteem, on the occasion of his leaving the company on promotion to "the rank of Major. The form this expression of goodwill tookwai a very handsome silver inkstand. In Uw centre of the inkstand was a pile of arm*, supporting ai inverted bullet, and above that again a wreath of laurel, having* shield inside. The piled arms were again repeated on the ruby bottles. On one aide of the shield was the monogram of the recipient, and on the other that of the company. The inkstand bore the foHoiriag inscription:-"To Major N. Wolfe (own obtaining his Majority) from the Chra* churoh City. Guards, of which company he was captain. — November, 1885." This was accompanied ty an illuminated address/as follows s-*'T» Major Wolfe. Dear sir,—We, the undersigned, officers, non-commissioned omcen, and members of the City Guards beg to convey to you our sincere cougratiuatfoßi :on your promotion to the rank of Major; and further, to ask you t acceptance of tfis accompanying mark of our esteem as* slight recognition of the services renders by you to this Corps, as well aa tow Volunteer movement generally. And we further wish to" add that during the twenty-three years you have been connected with us you have shown an_anparalleled attention to the duties eatwawj to you by your strict attention to drill»« discipline, and also by your exeepttonaJJj regular attendance on parade. With ou sincere wishes for your future welfare ana prosperity, we are, dear Major, your com-rades-in-anna.'.' The presentation was made by Lieutenant Garnett, who spoke of the- services rendered Major Wolfe, not only to the Company, but to Tolunteering ]»««*«*-,,££. Wolfe briefly responded.
