Hall, J.P., Esqs.J Dbttkeshnxss.—Mary Ann Douglas, who had been convicted five times within the present year, begged, with great apparent contrition, to be let off this time for the Eake of her children. After some 'hesitation, , Mr Whitefoord eaid he would not enter tip a conviction on this occasion, bat if ebe came up again within six months he would sentence her to a month's imprisonment for her present offence in addition to what ehe would then be liable to. For a first offence, a man was fined ss, or in default twenty-four hours' imprisonment. Civil Casks. —Beavan v Dobson, claim £40. This case, which was heard on September 11th, was a claim for the recovery of a horse, or the payment of its value £30, with JBIO added as damages for its detention. The horse was seized and Bold by defendant, who was under the impression that it formed part of a mob over which his principals, Wood, Shand and Co., held a bill of sale. The matter turned on the identity of the horse, and had been adjourned to allow Mr Whitefoord to inspect the animal, which was at Oxford. This had been done, and judgment was given for plaintiff for i 515, or the return of the horse, with costs. Damages for detention £5 was allowed in either case. Mr Martin was for plaintiff, Mr Qresson for defendant. Judgments went for plaintiffs by default with costs in Coatee and Co. v Bowlatt, £1 ss; New Zealand Farmers' Co-operative Association v Blackler, £27 12s 6d and England and Co. v Mre Gillett, JB2I. Brett v Byrne wae adjourned tilt September 26th, Marks v Byrne till "September 28th, Nathan v Whitby till September 29th, Brightling v Soott till September 30th, and Aulsebrook and Co. v Wooley till October 9th.
