AKAROA ITEMS.
At the Resident Magistrate's Court A-1. McGregor was charged with selling goods at auction without a license. Defendant stated that lie had Bent the money for the license to a friend in Christchnrch, being usable to leave Akaxoa, and that the friend had neglected to pay the caeh to the Customs. He had conducted the sale, thinking , as a matter of course that the license had been taken out. There had be*n no wrong done to tike revenue, for he had since taken out the yearly license, which he iproduced in Court. The Bench, said as the lowest fine that could be in-, flieted was £10, and it appef»d defendant thought at the time h» held the sale that the license had been taken out, they would dismiss the case. Had defendant been living in Christehureh bo such excuse would have been taken.. . The Duvauchellee Bay Church waeconsecrated yesterday afternoon by the Eignt Eev. the Primate. The Masons turned out in regalia at the ceremony, the Bey. M* Stocker, on a visit from InTercargill, acting ac Chaplain. , The late rain has done much gooa> ana the lambing is excellent.
