CHEAP TRIPS TO MELBOURNE.

TO THX IDITOK- 01 , THB FBXBB. Sib, —It is a trite saying that editors know everything Hence thie, letter. What I would know is—Whether"" cheap trips to Melbourne are impracticable? If they are, would you kindly inform mc whence arises that impracticability. If they are not, I would suggest to the steamehip companies the desirability of their immediate establishment. Who will venture to say that it would not pay the steamship companies, provided* that they regulated the fares so as to make them fall within the reach of everybody. Personally, I feel sure of its fiTiannial success. And regarding it from a public point of view, what would there be to prevent it from being a success in that quarter. Apart from the probable support of those people residing here who have friends and relatives in the neighboring colonies, apart from those who would take advantage of such trips from the commercial advantages afforded them, the largest amount, of support would accrue from another clasß of excursionists—l allude to pleasure-seekers. If Melbourne has not deteriorated since 1881, the year in which I visited it, it will, I feel sure, astonish—with its magnificent buildings and go-ahead-sort-of-people— those of Christchurch people who have never been outside their own little city. Trusting that I have not monopolised too much of your valuable space, Youtb, &c, L. A. Christchurch, June 3rd.
