SPREYDON.

The ordinary monthly meeting of the above Board was held at the Boad Board office on Monday, February 2nd. Present —All the members, the Hon. Ernest 'Gray in the chair. The Clerk's monthly report was read as follows:—The contractor for the maintenance of the Halswell drains has neglected to carry out his contract; consequently, the drains are in a very fool state. The employee of the Halawell Boad Board have carted away a portion of the public road between 8.8. 4885 and reserve No. 837; the road is cat right across, and is not fit for traffic. The contractor for forming and shinglug Stork's road is making satisfactory progress with his work. Tie receipts since last meeting were, rates Mi } credit balance at Bank £286 12s 10& It was resolved that the contractor be informed that the Board insists on his contract being proceeded with at once; if not complied with, men will be at once pat on by the Board, and the cost will be charged against him. The Halswell Boad Board to be written to, with a view of getting them to make good the damage complained of. Three tenders were received for the work, and that of Messrs Hore and Grose was accepted by the Board. Letters were read and dealt with as follows —Fiom the Selwyn County Council, stating that the following resolution was passed at a meeting of the Council held on the 30th ult., viz.—"That the existing arrangement with the Soad Boards for registering dogs be continued for the year 188?, but unless the dog registration for the ensuing year be more satisfactory, the Council will resume the registration. To be replied to. From the same, re circular addressed to the Board on the Ist July last in reference to the destruction of small birds, and asking the Board to forward any claim that may be against - the Council for birds paid for under the authority of that circular; also asking the Board to furnish, the Council with information as to what Sparrow Clubs exists in the Spreydon district, the number of birds and eggs destroyed, and the price paid for the same. Besolved to furnish the required information. From Messrs Harman and Stevens, asking the Board to alter 1 the name on the maps from tfildernesa road to Barrington. road. To be attended to. From Mr John Young-. j eton, stating that as he could not commence his contract for the formation of Milner's r*ad at the proper time, owing to the gone not being cleared, he took other work, and therefore requested the Board to either return his depoeit or allow him tc complete the job at the end of harvest. It was resolved to grant him an extension of time far one month from date. From Mr 'VTm.Mealing,ccmplainingof the dangerous state of the road between his land and Beserve No. 837, and stating that the Halewell Boad Board had a number of drays a few days ag« carting away earth from the said road; that he repeatedly warned the carters that they were destroying a public road, but they insisted in doing co, and stated that they were acting on instructions received from the Halswell Boad Board. He hoped the Board would attend to the matter at once, as two accidents had occurred there already. This matter was dealt with in the clerk's report. From Messrs Steel Brothers, asking to have their names placed on the rate-toll for property lately purchased in Tankerville, 8.8. 147. Ordered to be attended to. It was resolved—That the Board undertake the supervision of the work of constructing the culvert across the Lincoln road near the Spreydon School grounds for the County Council. Several other letters were read and dealt with. Accounts amounting to £63 lie 7d were passed for payment, and the Board adjourned.
