LITTLE RIVER.

The ordinary meeting of this Board was held on the 2nd instant. Present—Messrs John Gebbie (Chairman), W. Coop, Geo. Edmonds, H. t>. Buchanan, and W. Birdling. The Clerk's report was considered. It was resolved to get legal advice re recovering rates from two persons in the Tae Tapn District; also with regard to effecting improvements on the pound at Little Biver m compliance with section 80, Cattle Impounding Act, 1884. It was agreed that the matter be attended to by the Clerk. Mr Greenland, on behalf of Sir W. White, waited on the Board, requesting permission to divert water from a creek at Little Eiver, with a view to supply his caw-milL It was resolved that permission be granted to take not more than one-third of the water in the creek when at its lowest depth, and that the work of diversion muat be carried \ oat under the supervision of the Board, and maintained accordingly, failing -which at any time the Board reserved the right to revoke the permission herewith granted. The action of the Clerk in accepting tenders for right to cut grass seed on road was approved of. Letters were jread from—Mr T. 8. Duncan, requesting to be informed who had been paying rates on section 84162 from 1879 to 1882. The Clerk reported having sent the desired information. From Trust Agency, Chriatchorch, requesting to be furnished with a copy of the map of the Road District. The Clerk had replied that there are no copies of the map on hand." From Mr Lock, P.W.L, that so far from having allowed any obstruction on the Lake Foreyth road daring Government work, he had expected a leather medal for the attention paid by him to the public safety, Aα. Several membersv>f the Board said that though many dangerous otetructione had occurred in the past, an improvement 'lately has ee6 in, at the same time it would be necessary to ask Mr Locke further to attend to any overhanging or otherwise dangerous terraces with a view to have them rendered safe from slipping. From Mr Lyon, requesting that as he had already expended a sum of £230 on the Government road leading through Price's valley he would now aak the Board to contribute some- planking, with a view to effvCb repairs on bridges on said road, and he would find all labor, &0., necessary. Mr Buchanan proposed that, seeing the large amount already , expended on

this road by Mr Lyori, he woald move the request be granted, provided the work wasoMried out under tho supervision of the Clerk to the Board. Seconded by Mr Edmonds, and carried. From Mr Christiansen that about four or five chains be trenched leading to his place in Western valley, he guaranteeing to defray onehalf the cost of the work. The Clork certified having seen the road, which, owing to its steepness, is known by the name of Jacob's Ladder. Mr Coop proposed—" That Mr Christiansen be allowed, his rates for one year towards improving said road; balance to be paid by himself." Seconded by Mr Edmonds, and carried. From the Hon. Minister for Public Works, that the ex&eb site for a terminus of the Little Biver railway has not yet been, fixed, but that a survey is now being made with a view to arrive at the best place, in the meantime that the Government intended the station to be located as near the Little Biver township as possible. Tenders were received for metal carting both in Tai Tapu and Gebbio'a Valley, and one in each case accepted, provided that in the Qebbie'a valley case contractor consents to break all boulders, if not, freah tenders to bo invited. After passing accounts for ment the Board adjourned.
