RANGIORA BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The ordinary meeting of this CouncU was held on Friday evening. Present—The Mayor (Mr A. Ivory), Cra. Blackett, Stephens, Cone, Gu—iver, Stevens, Good, Boyd, and Crothers. Letters were read from Messrs WUliams and Deacon, forwarding an account due for professional services rendered several years ago. The amount was passed for payment. The Surveyor's report stated that the piece of land on the South Town Belt which the Council had sold had been surveyed by Mr C. Pemberton. Mr Bishop had received notice to open the drain across the footpath but had not done anything in the matter. The asphalt in High street had been completed with the exception of a coat of tar which would be required shortly. There ia too much water in the pit to allow of any gravel being taken out. The dog collars had been delivered. The receipts for the month amounted to £4,1 143 sd; balance in Bank, —422 03 lid; accounts amounting to _7410s 5d were passed for payment, The Works Committee reported that the work on the East Town belt had been completed and passed. The Committee recommended that a larger pipe be placed at the bottom of the belt, also that the side channel in Church street be cleaned out and the footpath be raised. Cr. Good moved—"That the works recommended be carried out. Cr. Stevens seconded the motion, which was carried. Two applications were received for the position of assistant engineer to the fire brigade. Mr Moses Miller [was duly appointed. The tender of Messrs GuUiver Bros, for the removal of and additions to the fire brigade shed was accepted. Cr Cone was elected to fiU the vacancy on the Works Committee caused by the election of Cr. Ivory to the mayoralty. Cr. Cone brought before the CouncU the necessity for metalling the street on Bassiitgthwaite's property, also Blake street, and after some discussion on the matter in consequence of the streets named being only twenty feet in width, it was decided to call for tenders for the same. A vote of thanks to the Mayor terminated the meeting.
