LICENSING COMMITTEES.

SODTH-WEST DISTRICT. The quarterly meeting of the Licensing Commissioners for tbe South-west district was heldattheCouncil Chambers yesterday. There were present—Mr John Anderson (Chairman), Messrs R. Westenra, J. D. Macpherson, and R. Struthers. transfers. Mr W. P. Cowlishaw applied or a transfer of the license of the Langham Hotel from Mr Guthridge to Mr Henry Allen. Plans of the proposed new building, the erection of which was to be proceeded with at once, were produced. Mr Cowlishaw also appUed for a transfer of the license of the White Hart Hotel from Mr J. O. Sheppard to Mr Cecil Louisson, Inspector Pender said that the conditions imposed at the last quarterly meeting had been complied with, and there was a very marked improvement in the management of the hotel. The Chairman was very glad to hear it. ■ Mr Loughrey applied for a transfer of the Ucense of Collins' Hotel from Mr W.H. S)rchard to Mr J. Toovey. 3 Mr Stringer appUed for a transfer of ■he license of the Terinkrug Hotel from Mr Cecil Louisson to Mr G. S. Marshall.

Mr Maude appeared in ipport of the appUcation. jT The temporary transfer was granted. & Mr Loughrey submitted the plans for she new Caversham Hotel, prepared by Mr J. B. Jacobsen, but asked the Committee *> grant an extension of time for the Section of the buUding. Mr Ravenhill, te licensee, was anxious to commence the w building as soon as possible, but found at he could not have it completed by the Ixt quarterly meeting. Ke would, hower, promise to have the premises dshed before the present Committee went t of office. The Committee approved of the plans, id intimated that they expected Mr LvenhiU to state definitely at next quarterly meeting when he would commence the _■»• braiding.
