WELLINGTON, January 22. The regatta to-day commenced with, a strong north-east breeze, but about two o'clock the wind fell, and after a short interval of calm, turned to light airs from S.E. The day being the anniversary of the settlement of the province, was universally observed as a holiday in town, and'a very large number of persons visited the country by rail and other conveyances. Beyond one or two upsets in the harbor, resulting in nothing worse than a ducking, no accidents are reported. THIRD CLASS YACHT EACB. Seven started. Mr Rodgers' Murray 1 Mr Simpson's Diamond ... ... 2 coasters' back. The Ellerton, Torea, Saucy Lass, Clematis, and Maid of Italy started. While the wind lasted the Torea held a good lead, but afterwards the Maid came up easily and won without requiring her time allowance. .
