Handicap Hubdle Race of 60 soys; second horse to receive 10 soys from the stakes; one mile and a half. Mr Butler's eh g Agent, aged, 12st 71bs (Lyford) 1 Mr Sherwin's b g Mokarakara, 6 yrs 10st71bs (Cotton) 2 Mr Jones' eh g Gang Awa, aged, 9st7lbs (Boyle) 3 "Wild Boy, lOat lOlbs; Overdraft, 9st 121bs; Bobin Hood, 9st lOlbs; Don Jose also ran. Betting— 6 to] 4 agst Mokarakara and the Agent; 4t06 to 1 any other. Don Jose struck a hurdle and parted company with her rider. The rest jumped without a mistake, and as they kept well together nearly all the way the race was a very pretty one. The issue lay between the Agent and Mokarakara and Gang Awa. An interesting struggle between these three, however, soon ended in a rather easy victory for'the Agent, who passed the post two lengths in front of Mokarakara. At thia point the favorite appeared to have the race well in hand, or at least to have the unnamed filly as her only dangerous opponent, but Violin suddenly shot out from the ruck, and passing one after another like lightning wen a capital race by two lengths. Contessa had shot her bolt 100 yards from home, and second place was fought out by Aurora and the Miss King filly, the former of whom gained it by hafi a length. Time, 2min 22Jsec. Turquoise led her at the first mile by four or five lengths, with Adamant beside him. Lady Emma gradually decreased the distance between herself and the leaders, but I at a mile and three-quarters Turquoise put the steam on and the gap widened again, much to the uneasiness of the favourite's supporters. Allen called on her as they turned into the straight, and she came up ■ on the outside and passed Adamant, but couldnevergetonterms with Turquoise, who won hands down by a length and a half from Lady Emma. Adamant ran a good horse, and finished only a length behind Lady Emma. Time, 3min 45aeo; the last mile being done in linin 47sec. Of JESO4 in the totafisator were on Turquoise. Handicap Tbot, of 120 soys; second horse, 20 soys; third, lOsovs. Mr McAuley's Maori (65sec) ... ... 1 This race was won out of a field of twelve. L. , -.'. 2 Somnus (Bst 21b), Eangatira (7st 10lb), and Nautilus (7st 41b), also ran; Entering the straight Tasman led by a length, but Gitana fought it out to the finish, and Clifford landed the favorite a winner by only a head.
