ASHBURTON.
Yesterday morning a special meeting of the Council was held. Present—The Mayor, and Urt, Harmon, Bollock, Roberta, Parkin, Williamson, Ireie, St. Hill and Friedlander. After a preliminary speech by the outgoing Mayor, Mr Hugo Friedlander, champagne •as diepemed, Or. Bollosk proposing Mr H. Friedlander'* health. The toast iru duly honored 5 Mr ITriedlender then proposing the toaat of the Mayor-elect, Mr Donald Williamion. Other toasts were proposed. There is a general feeling of satiifaction afct&e manner in which the oatgoing Mayor discharged his duties, and it is confidently felt that he will have a worthy successor in the. newly installed Mayor, Mr Donald Williamson.
