PRIZE DISTRIBUTIONS.
MELVILLE HOUSE SOHOOL.
The annual distribution of prizes took plaoe on Monday last. The athletic sports competition was held on Friday, the 9th met, in Lancaster Park ground, and moib of the events were well oonteated. Before the distribution of the prizes Mr Qook gave a short address to the boys, congratulating them on their year's work. He hoped they would make equal or even greater progress next year, and he alluded to the fine set of scientific* apparatus they had just received from home, and which he hoped would prove an incentive next year to a njoresnccessful study of the elements of science. He also mentioned that phonographic shorthand and book-keeping wouid receive more_ of his attention next year than those subjects had received hitherto. The prizes for both the sohool work and the athletic sports were given away by Mrs Oook amid loud cheering. The following it the prize list :— Upper Ist—Classics, Wilson 11.
