STANMORE.

The nominati n of candidntoa for this electorate took place yesterday at the Schoolroom. Bingslind, Mr F. E. Wright being the Koturning officer. The following gentlemen were nominated :— William Patten Cowlishaw, proposed by Mr Eph, Toomer, seconded by Mr Edwin Green. Walter Hippolyte filliet, proposed by Mi yt.'S, Hnbbard, seooniied by Mr John Jamioaon. William Flesher, proposed by Mr W. B. CooVe,, seconded by Mr Win. Iterr. Eobert Clephane, proposed by Mr E. Clephane, seconded by Mr Wm. Flesher. Mr Clephano, who nomiuiitod himself, and Rpote in favor of Mr Pilliot, had some difficulty in obtaising a seconder. MrCowlishaw offered, bnt not being an electoiot the district, was not eligible. Mr William Flesher then oauie to the rescue, stating it would give him much pleasure to contest the seat with that gentleman. Considerable difference of opinion existed es to whether the candidates should address the meettaf or not. Mr Flesher advanced for that purpose, btt the electors present did not care to hear any of tia candidates, as they had all spoken several times ii the district. The Eetuming Officer then took a show of iaii, which resulted as follows: — MrPilliet 29 Mr Flesher 20 Mr Cowlishaw ... 18 Mr Clephane 6 A poll was demanded on behalf of Mr CowlisJaw. A rote of th&nkfi to the Beturning Officer, proposed by Mr Flesher, terminated the proreedlcge.
