The correspondence past week was read as follows :—Letter he Beturning Officer, notifying that Or. had been elected unopposed to the .ffice yor for the coming term. The comittee having interviewed Mr Marahman Itmd that only 855 acres of the 1200 sores jpposed to be reserved as an endowment for * Council had been gazetted. The smaller ia, therefore, only belonged to the Borough. te oommittee were taking steps to have the lission rectified. The difficulty with the ikaia Forks and Ashburton BailwayOom* by was now in a fair way for final settleint. _ The sanitary oommittee reported that r Brightling's tender for seavengering for a iriod of two years had been accepted.—The nance oommittee reported the receipts for ie past fortnight to have been £205. The -peHditure for the same period was £60 6s I. The credit .balance at the Bank was Os 3d.—On the recommendation of the mmittee, .the salary of the ranger was tiered to.be increased by £16 yearly as |Bge allowance.—Or. Forrester reported a usance existing at certain drain sumps m accumulations of rubbish. The clerk 1 instructed to again write to the ainage Board on the matter.— ref erenoe to the drainage rate, after conJerable discussion it was resolved, on the |fotion of Or. Andrew, seconded by Or. It was understood that their igal advisers in this matter on a former fecalion were not again to be employed.— fee Council then adjourned. Before separating B& Worship expressed his hope of meeting all Be Councillors "at the railway station this day 8-1 a.m., for the purpose of taking part in Be .picnic to be given by him.
