New Zealand securities remain at the following quotations:—s per cent. 10-40 loan, 1001; 5 per cent. 1889 loan, 103f. 4£ per cent. 1879-1904 loan, 98*. The wheat market is dull, and prices have a tendency to fall; Adelaide wheat, ex store, unchanged, is at 58s; New Zealand wheat has fallen ls, and is quoted to-day at 555. Adelaide flour, ex store, 425. The tallow market is dull, and drooping; Australian best beef, 395; best mutton, 42s per cwt. A meeting was held to-day in Hyde Park, at which resolutions were passed denouncing the coercive measures now being adopted by the Government in Ireland. It is estimated that fully 50,000 persons were present at the meeting, the proceedings of which were of an orderly character. News has been received to-day from Ireland that a farmer has been murdered at Ennis, in County Clare. The outrage is connected with the recent agrarian agitation. The perpetrator has not yet been discovered. The Australian and New Zealand mails, via Suez and Brindisi, which left Melbourne on September 12th, were delivered here to-day. ROME, October 24. Queen Margnerita will accompany King Humbert in the latter _ approaching visit to the Emperor Francis Joseph at Tienna. PARIS, October 24. . Telegrams are to hand to-day from Tunis announcing that a large force of French troops has been despatched against the Arab insurgents at __airiman, which is now the focus of the rebellion. The French columns, three in number, are now reported to be Bearing their destination, and it is expeoted that the troops will shortly attack the rebels in full force. . WASHINGTON, October 24. Mr Morgan has been appointed to succeed Mr Windom, as Secretary of the United States Treasury.
