SYDENHAM BOROUGH COUNCIL.

Thubssat, Mat 29. The ordinary fortnightly meeting of the Sydenham Borough Council was held at seven o'clock. Present—His Worship the Mayor and Ore. White, Andrew, Pavitt-, Brown, Charters, Lungdown, Hall, and Jones. THB GASWOKJtS EOAD. The Mayor stated that with regard to the Gasworks road, and the land of Mr P. Cunningham, tho matter was now in a fair way of being brought to a satisfactory i*sue. Cr. Charters, however, told him that the parties who had promised to subscribe were very loath to do so. As soon as the purchase was completed he believed the Drainage Board would proceed to lay down pipes and fill up the ditch. He had no doutt the gentlemen who had promised to contribute would do so.

Cr. Charters said he was quite prepared to give his chefne for £50 as a guarantee at onoe if necessary. BBTPBXERG OFPICBB. . A letter was read from Mr Charles Allison, accepting the position of returning officer for the Borough of Sydenham. THB BY-lAWβ. A circular from the Govennent similar to that read at a recent meeting of the City Council was read by tho town clerk. The letter was received. KB9IBTBAXION OP BIBTHS AKD DEATHS./ A letter was read from the RegistrarGeneral, stating that the registrar of Christchurch was not supplied with a map of the Borough of Sydenham showing the boundaries, without which the latter officer could not make a correct return of the births and deaths in that district. Or. Charters moved—"That the Town Clerk be requested to reply to the "RegistrarGeneral that the Begistrar of Chriatchnrch* could have been furnished with the necessary information by application to the proper' officer of this Council, and that the Town Clerk be requested to give the information required." The motion was seconded by Or. Hall, and agreed to. THB SOUTH ioWX BBM , . An account from the Ghriatchurea City Council for £4 16s for work done on the South Town Belt, was referred to the works committee. MASBXJJt'S HOT££. :

A letter was read from the Riocarton Road Board, atking why the Council had deolined to make the new approaches to Mr Hangman's Hotel. Beferred to the works committee to report upon at the next meeting. AfIPHAXTrso. A letter was read from Mr J. T. Bell, stating that it was intended to lay down asphalto in front of Sydenham Hours, and asking when proportion of the cost the Council would be prepared to pay. The letter was referred to the works committee. PBIVATK BOOK HOB. THB TOWK CLBBK. - A letter wai read from the Town Clerk, asking that he mighs hare a room which he could consider of a private character, and in which to keep bis pipers, &c, without fear of their being disturbed. The application was -made in consequence of the foreman of works and the inspector baring occupied hie room by direction of the works committee on Taetday eTeniiig last. *• ; The Gotujoil went into committee to consider the question. ; .j "Ultimately the letter was withdrawn. . DOG BEeiSTBATIOir. A letter was read from Isaac George Bridges, stating that he had been fined 20i, and 7a costs, for a dog owned by him being without a collar, although on the very day the officer had'called at hie hou&e during hie absence, he had actually a collar in his! possession, which he had just obtained from the Councfl: He also, stated that he had called preyionely at the office to register his dog, but that the collars were not then ready. After some digctunos, it was resolved to, receive the letter, and to inform the writer: ' that collars could have been obtained at the 'Council any time after the 2nd of January, and that the Council could not, consequently, l fefuad tne money as asked.
