THE S.S. TAUPO.
A shipwright, Mr Boss; a passenger by the s.s. Hawea, who last Wednesday visited the wrecked s.s. Xaupo at Ta_r__gu, states that the contractors, Messrs Gouk, H-wkeswood, and Humphries, were well advanced with the preliminaries for floating the steamer, —light chains were sisng around the ______ (the stem) part of the vessel, and were being attached at cither side to the heavy spars laid across her dc__ The bulk of the ballast and coal in her had been discharged. Two barques, the Bonita and Aberdeen, a" Auc—land, were chartered by the contractors to perform the lifting work. They were to —_ye left _i nckland for Tauranga Itist Wednesday. Mr Boss lays the prospects for successfully getting her a- ore excellent, and if all goes well, the contractors will be well remunerated lor their work, £5500 being the sum agreed upon to be paid by the Insurance Companies. For this amount th- con—actor? have to take the steamer to Auckland and plice her in the graving dock. From the preparations made it would seem that the outlook for raising the I—-po is much better than was supposed. Fine weather to accomplish the work is . of course one ot the essential conditions, however.
