AUSTRALIAN JOCKEY OLTJB AUIUMN MEETING.

X-BstDax-. Siohby, April 14. The autumn meeting of the Australian Jockey Club was commenced to-day at Randwick. The weather was fine, but cold and boisterous, and there was a good attendance. His Excellency the Acting-Governor was present. The racing generally was good, hut with the exception of the Autumn Stakes and the Doncaster Handicap, the fields were small; Chester had no difficulty in disposing of his two opponents in the Autumn Stakes, and Bosworth had an easy victory in the Leger. The result of the Champagne Stakes was somewhat unlooked for, as neither Petrea nor Nel'te gained a piece. It was a fine race, and only won by Baro.efc after a hard struggle. The Hook disposed of a large field in the Doncaster Handicap, but was run to within a neck by Tocal. The T-ial Stakes also produced a close finish, Avernus only passing the post a head in front of Maid of Honour. Subdue Race, of 100 soys, with a handicap sweepstakes of 10 soys each added. Belting—3 to 2on Chester. At the start Chester led, but passing the stand K.C.B. led him by half a length. At the back of the course Chester was leading by a length from X.C.8., Andover a length away. There wai a pretty race np the hill, when Chester was leading by a length, the other two abreast. Chester led into the straight, followed by Andover slightly in advance of 2L0.8. Chester won by a length, hands down, K.C.B. running well at the finish and taking second place from Andover, who was a good third. Time—2min. 43 4-10 sees.
Thb Champagne Stakes, a sweepstakes of 20 soys each, for two-year-olds. Five furlongs. Mr G. Donnelly's be Baronet ... ... 1 Mr W. Forrester's bl c Gipsy Cooper ... 2 Hon. J. White's be Gainsborough 3 Sunshine, Petrea, South Hamilton, Nellie, Courteney, Fan Bias, Adventurer, Tbe B-rber, Pontiff, Baroness, Chesterfield, and Knight Errant also started.
There was a fair start, Pontiff showing to the front, followed by Gainsborough and Baronet, with Chesterfield well up. The lastnamed led round the bend, followed by Petrea and Gipsy Cooper. On rounding the turn Gipsy Cooper was in front, with Baronet second. A splendid r <cc then ensued along the straight, which resulted in favor of Baronet by a neck from Gipsy Cooper, and Gainsborough fin shed a a good thud. Time, lmin 4iecs. St. Legeb Stakes, a sweepstakes of 30 sovseach. For three-year-olds. One mile and three quarters. Mr E. Jellett's br c Bosworth, by Maribyrnong—The Fawn ... ... 1 Mr E De Mestre's b c His Lordship, by Tbe Marquis—Beatrice ... ... 2 Sweetmeat ... ... 3 Mr W. H. Rent's br c Napper Tandy ... 0 On getting away Sweetmeat went to the front, but soon gave way to Bosworth, who led to the Leger stand. Up the hill Hii Lordship went to the front, and led to the back of the course, where Bosworth again resumed the premier position, and was never afterwards headed, winning easily by two lengths from His Lordship, Sweetmeat a good third. The time taken was 3min 24_aecs.
Doncastxb Handicap, of 100 soys, with a sweepstakes of 10 soys each. One mile. Mr E. Jellett's br h The Hook, aged, 7st 31b I Mr A. K. Finlay's bl h Tocal, 5 yrs, Bst 101b 2 Mr J. Tait's br c The Arab, 3 yrs, sst 71b ... 3 The following also started—Savanaka, Black Eagle, Burwood, Crusader, Napper Tandy, Satirist, Trump Yoss. Soothsayer, Royal Oak, Jack o'Lantern, Apology. Rangatira, Falcen, Blackthorn, The Bake, Free Lance, Bedouin, Ito, and Lightning. A fine racs; won by a neck.
Trial Stakes, of 109 eovs, with a sweep. stakes of 5 soys each added. One mile and a quarter. Mr C. M'Evoy's bo Avernns 1 Mr M. Fennelly'sbr f Maid of Honor ... 2 Mr W. E. Boyd's b c Braidwood ... .... 3 A good race; won by a head. Time, 2min. 16sec.
