Auckland, January 3. Medcalfe, agent for Madame DeMurska, proceeded South in the Hawea, to arrange for commencing a New Zealand tour from Dunedin. The woiks of the New Zealand Titanic Steel and Iron Company, at New Plymouth, are complete, and in working order. Wanganui, January 3. At the 'nomination the show [of ihands for the candidates was—Bryce, G3 ; Vogel, 50 ; Watts, 25; Pharazyn, 14; Field, 4. It is thought by a great many that the show of hands indicates how the elections will go, and that Messrs Bryce or Vogel will head the polL Rangitikei, January 3. For this election it is said that Mr Bull is disqualified, on account of his being a Government contractor, and that Mr Ballance has the better chance, but Mr Bull will go to the poll. Wellington, January 3. The Customs revenue collected at Wellington last week amounted to £1831. Gbeymouth, January 4. Arrived : Alhambra;, from Melbourne; Wallace, from Nelson. Sailed : Circe, for Lyttelton ; Alhambra, for Nelson, at 4.30. Hokitika, January 4. The Alhambra has arrived. She left at 2.30 p.m. on the 29th. She experienced light weather throughout. Passengers for Lyttelton, Mr and Mrs Espenett and family Miss Sorbie; in steerage three, and three tons cargo. Dunedin, January 4. The criminal sessions commenced to-day. The cases were all light ones, and the judge congratulated the grand jury on that fact. The Danedin regatta, which took place yesterday, was a success, but the weather interfered considerably with the pulling. Two boats were swamped, but no accidents occurred.
Sir J. Vogel will be nominated for Clutha. This has caused a stir among Mr Thomson's supporters.
