DISTRIBUTION OF PRIZES AT MR CHAPMAN'S COMMERCIAL SCHOOL, EARNLEY, RANGIORA.
The prizes at the above school were awarded after examination. Written papers for nearly all subjects. The Rev Canon Dudley took the boys in Sacred History and Catechism, and Mr B. W. Mountfort examined, placed, and reported u;.on the maps, architectural, general and freehand drawing, with all of which he appeared very pleased. H. B. Gresson, Esq, having very kindly addressed the pupils, distributed the prizes as follow:— Fourth Form—l, Pearce and Mcintosh equal, Sacred and profane history, English grammar and composition, arithmetic, Euclid and Latin, Pearce taking extra marks in bookkeeping, Mcintosh in French ; 2, E. G. A. Rich, Latin, French, and Euclid; 3, C. d'Auvergne, bookkeeping, geometry, and French; VV. Charlesworth highly commended in French, geometry, history, and arithmetic Third Form—l, T. Leech ;2,L. F. Fuller; 3, Witham;4, B. d'Auvergne; 5,F. Gamman, Blackett, and Truman, nearly equal Second Form—l, (marks) S. J. D. Good ; (examination), F. Leech ;2, Thorn II; 3, Stackwood ; 4, A. Dallas First Form—l, G. Shoreland ;2, W. Stackwood ; 3, E. Clarke ; 4, S. C. Malthus First Form (Second Division) —1, Reginald Riches; 2, Thompson; 3, Thorne and Wheeler, equal Special prizes were awarded to G. and L. Martin, G. Pow, L. Lincoln, G. Gamman, and C. Clarke Freehand Drawing—l, Bonamy d'Auvergne; 2, C. Clarke Architectural and General Drawing—l, C. Jennings ; 2, Pearce Mapping—l, Pearce ;2, Mcintosh Mechanical Drawing—l, Mcintosh ; 2, C. d'Auvergne; 3, F. Fuller Writing—l, Pearce ; 2, Mcintosh After refreshment, the parents and friends joined the young people in their varied games, and a very pleasant evening brought to a close the first annual breaking-up party of Earnley Academy.
