Hie* speech was an exhaustive one. fie ■ epoke at great length on the Abolition Bill and his action thereon, stating why he voted for abolition. He had formerly supported separation, .bat since 1871 it was not desirable to have separation, even IE it could be \ obtained, and be considered it could not be. He would only support abolition conditionally on the land fund being localised, that is reserved to each province. Here* viewed Sir George Grey's speech, and showed how the Auckland provincialists endeavored to get the land fund of the Middle Island for the benefit of the North. He referred to Sir George Grey's past actions, to show that while Sir George now spoke about preserving the rights and liberties of the people, he had i in times past raised storms of indignation by 1 his despotic interference with constitutional Government. I A hearty vote of thanks was passed to Mr McLean for his action during the past session ; and farther, that he should be the member for the district in the next Parliament.
