MANDEVILLE AND RANGIORA BOARD OF CONSERVATORS.
A meeting of this Board was held on Tuesday, when all the members except Mr Guild were present. A tender for loan of £1000 was received from Mr H. B. Johnston, at the price of £85 for each £100 debenture. It was decided that the offer be held over till next meeting. A letter was read from Mr Wilkinson, Drain road, asking the Board not to enforce his rat*, as he had not been in work during the past six or seven months, and was in receipt of charitable aid. The Board decided they had no power to exempt him. A letter was read from Mr May respecting the necessity for pipes from the main drain, so as to provide his cattle with water. It was resolved that the work be attended to. ; Permission was granted to Mr Stevenson, Drain road, to clean out the drain along the western side of rural section 1760—its full width, and place the earth on his land, the work to be done to. the approval of assistant engineer. ; Mr Witchell, Flaxton, applied for leave to place pipes from bis land into the main drain to carry water off his land, and make a ditch and bank, and plant same with- gorse or hawthorn. It was resolved that permission be granted. The Board decided to grant Mr T. Stevenson leave! to form a bank along the boundary between his section and the main drain, he befog allowed 4s a chain and to plant the bank with gorse. Mr Deßourbel had an interview on behalf of Stonyer and Co, Ohoka mill, asking permission to divert a portion of the drainage water out of the main drain either above or below the Flaxton bridge, so as*to run down the new cutting alongside the road to the old drain filled up by the contractor. After some discussion it was resolved to allow the request, subject to certain conditions, the Government engineer being in favor of the work and Mr Deßourbel undertaking to be responsible for any damage which might happen. It was resolved that a full statement of accounts be made out by next meeting. The Board then adjourned till Tuesday, 19th instant, at 11 a.m.
