RANGIORA CRICKET CLUB.
The annual dinner of the Kangiora Cricket Club, to wind-up the season, was held at the Red Lion Hotel on Wednesday evening, when about twenty gentlemen sat down to an excellent repast provided by mine Host Bassingthwaite.
Mr C. Merton, the president of the R.C.C.. occupied the chair, and Mr J. Johnston the vice-chair. The cloth having been removed, and the usual loyal and patriotic toasts proposed and duly honored, The Chairman called upon th*» secretary of the club-to give an account of the proceedings of the club during the past season. The Secretary (Mr E. B. Good) then gave a resume of the doings of the club during the year. He was sorry to have to report that little progress had been made since last season. The number of matches played with other clubs was not as many as last season, but the elevens of the R.C.C. had won the majority of their matches. He was sorry that the members had not taken the opportunity of practising together more regularly, and thought .that perhaps the want of a good ground had something to do with want of interest felt in the club. He -would suggest that before long some steps should be taken towards getting the recreation reserve brought under the control of the club, and laid down for a cricket ground. With regard to the financial position of the club, he informed the meeting that when the subscriptions due were paid in there would be a small balance to the credit of the club. The Chairman, in proposing the toast of "The Baflgiora Cricket Club," hoped that next season something would be done to stir the members up, and that those who have as yet not played in the matches would practice to make themselves as efficient as those who do, and so he able to go out with the teams to meet other clubs. During the evening a number of toasts were proposed and responded to. Mr F. M. Rickman, in a few eulogistic words, proposed the health of the secretary of the club.
The vice-chairman proposed the chairman, the president of the club. Then followed the toasts of the " Mercantile interest," to which Mr Eickman responded, offering the members of the club the use of a piece of land as a cricket ground for next season j the " Yi«*«-cbairman,"&c.
At intervals throaghout the evening, the musical part of the company gavo a number of capital sougs, which tended greatly to the enjoyment of the meeting, and the company separated at an early hour, baring spent a very pleasant evening.
