SCHOOL EXAMINATIONS.

HAREWOOD ROAD SCHOOL,

The annual children's treat in connection with the Harewood road school came off in the school grounds yesterday. The children assembled at one o'clock, and mustered about 100 strong. Cake, sandwiches, and other come : tibles were liberally supplied, together with a plentiful supply of ginger beer. The nsual games incident to such gathering were then entered into, and kept up with great spirit by the youngsters until four o'clock, when the schoolmaster gave the call to tea, and marshalled the juveniles into the schoolroom in excellent order, when a sump* tuous repast was provided. After the children's tea was concluded, the adults to the number of 150 took their turn at the tea tables, and did fall justice to tbe dainties. ; The schoolroom was very tastefully decorated by Miss Philpot, Miss Stanley, and Mr John Dury. Conspicuous, amongst the other decorations, were the words "Welcome to

Harewood Road Schs)^Treat,"f*lonefin Jioffiergt- __ ■*■ '" 7 The prizes to be distributed to the pnpils who were'successful at thelate examination, also gifts and sewing prizes, were displayed on tables ranged in the centre of the room, and had a very pleasing effect. After tea was concluded, Mr G.A. Durey, chairman of committee; distributed the prizes.

The following is the prize list :— Ist Class—lst prize, Fanny Cole; 2nd, Jane Somerset; 3rd, Thomas Rowe; 4th, George H. Stanley. 2nd Class—lst prize, Fred Cole; 2nd, Lydia M. Philpott ; 3rd, Taaac Philpott. 4th Class—lst prize, George Rowe ; 2nd, William Robin and Richard Stanley ; 3rd, Walter Chisnall.

Sewing classes examined by Mrs Sutnliffe and Miss Coster, who spoke very highly of the work.

Ist Class—lst prize, Alison Durey ; 2nd, Louisa Turner•; 3rd, Elizabeth Durey.

2nd Class—lst prize, Mary Donald ; 2nd, Fanny Durey ; 3rd, Martha Stanley. After the prizes were distributed, a Christmas tree was produced, kindly provided by Mrs Saville and Mrs Sutcliffe, the children drawing lots for the prizes. Racing was also entered into by some of tbe boys, together with various other games, which were kept up until a late hour. Taking it altogether it was one of the most successful gatherings of the kind that has yet taken place at the Harewood road, and its success is entirely due to the energetic manner in which the members of the committee carried out the arrangements.
