Lvttelton for a; steamer to; be sent to the crew's assistance, if possible With reference to the above our Lyttelton correspondent vntes :—Captain Gibson, Port officer, Lyttelton, received a telegram from the pilot at Kaiapoi (Mr Petersen), to the effJet that the ketch Linnet, in crossing the bar, lost her mainmast; a message was sent back asking if she" required, assistance, the reply was better send a steamer, the p.s. Novelty arrivsoon after this: message, reported that sjgaii had been got on the vessel, and such " being the case, it was consided not necessary, __asl the wind;was off shore,..to Bend any assistance to the vessel. ;.
