The " Independent" of Thursday says :— Imported goods continue to rule at very low value, while no sales to any extent beyond mere requirements are effected, and it is generally felt that without some very material alteration we shall have to provide for more depressed times before the approach of winter. The drought in Australia has created a temporary demand for cured butter in kegs, and a considerable quantity has changed hands for shipment to Melbourne. Prices have consequently gone up from 8d to Iβ Id per lb.
