[By Interprovincial Telegraph.] Wellington, Nov. 17, 7.58 p.m. The Wanganui friendlies have been disbanded. There are but few houses now occupied for more than a mile or two outside Wanganui. The Wereroa redoubt, which was attacked on Thursday evening, was successfully defended for three hours, without loss, by the first-class militia. A few of the rebels were killed. The redoubt has since been abandoned. The main body of the rebels continue to move 'towards Wanganui, followed by Whitmore. The former skirts the edge of the bush, and has it always ready for cover. The latter keeps in the open country, watching and waiting for a favorable opportunity to attack. The G-overnor, Messrs Stafford, Haultain, Featherston, and Parris, were in Wanganui yesterday. The Wesleyan Annual Missionary meeting was held last night. The lease of the Provincial Bond for three years was sold by public tender to-day to Mr George, for £800 per annum. Wellington, Nov. 18, 8 p.m. The G-overnor and Mr Stafford are expected in the Sturt hourly. In journeying up the coast they called at Waikinae, where Wi Tako was asked to go on with them. They next stopped a few hours at Otaki. After the natives had made complimentary speeches they proceeded to Manawatu, where they stopped the night. The settlers presented the Governor with an address next (Friday) morning. They then proceeded to Rangitikei where further addresses were presented to the Governor, remaining at Fox's seat (Westoe). Messrs Stafford and Richardson going on by Cobb's coach to Wanganui. The Governor reached Wanganui on Saturday afternoon and held a levee, and was to meet the natives on Monday. The Sturt is removing stores from Patea previous to its immediate abandonment. The Government approve of Wbitmore's tactics. The settlers regard them as involving absolute ruin to the district. Nothing further from Napier. The Duke of Edinburgh's ball-room is being dismantled, preparatory to its removal for clearing the site for the new Government House. Mr Clayton, of Dunedin, is reported as the architect. Mr Hall will hold office some time longer yet. A Distillation Company is talked of. Whitmore'B district order of the late Kutuka fight says—"Though engaged in many hard-contested fights, he had never been in one in which there was so much to admire from first to last." The front is now at Alexander's farm, nine miles from Wanganui. The road to.the river above the town is open to the rebels. There is a probability of their crossing into the Rangitikei district. This is speculated upon by the Wanganui " Herald."
