Cheistchubch—January 9. I [Beiore C. C. Bowen, Esq., R.M.] John Wiseman, charged with having been drunk and disorderly, was discharged with a caution, it being his first offence. David Monro was charged with a breach of the Road., Ordinance. Thia _case bad been

adjourned for further evidence, which was now produced. His Worship said he was quite satisfied that defendant had committed ihe offence, and he would therefore be Gned 10s and have to pay the evpense of tlie witness. Walter Hartnall was fined 10s for furious driving, and 10i al*o for plying for hire with his cab without a license. Robert F*lloon was charged with plying for hire without a license. It appeared that defendant had a license to ply between the Railway station nnd Post-office, but that he had carried passengers to Papanui, thereby going beyond his license. Defendant was fined £1. .. ._ Selwyn'Davis was charged with plying for hire as a carter without a license. It appeared from the evidei.ee that he had conveyed on one occasion things in hia cart, btit had.not nDiie back fur the money. Defendant produced his license, which he said be had obtained before he carted the things in question. Defendant was fined 10s. A case against Thomas Stout, for carrying more passengers in his vehicle than was allowed by his license, was adjourned for a week for further evidence. Hetty Feathers was charged by James Carter with using language towards him calculated to provoke a breach of the peace. Plaintiff said that he andfourothers were out at three o'clock in the morning singing the Christmas hymn. They saw defendant at a publichouse, and she (defendant) offered to shout some beer, and then began to abuse him, calling him a rogue and a liar. Several witnesses corroborated the material portions of plaintiff's evidence. The defendant said that if she did make übo of any abusive language, i» was in consequence of the provocation she had received from plaintiff. Case dismissed.
