Messrs. Wright, TJobertson & Co.'s report of the stock market up to tlie 17th, as follows: —
The stock market during: the past month lias been characterised by a continuance of the depression previously cxistiiur. Fat cattle arc in fair demand at our quotations. Store cattle, almost unsaleable. Fat sheep, owing- to the Senre arrivals by seaboard and from the interior, are very difficult to more Store wethers—no demand. Store ewes, pro\ tncial bred, in fair request. Fat tattle—The niaiket Las been fairly supplied, and li ttle chancre in pvievs is to be reported. At auction, we have di-posed ot a considerable number, at prices varying from £IS to XU2 per hi-ad. The lot ex WangwinL broujrht £14 15* round, we quote prime quality beef sos to 05s per 1 0:>U»e ; second ditto. 40s to 45*. Fat Calves are in brisk demand; our pales range from £:> to £5 Sβ each.
More Cattle—These still continue a drug, extremely few rrantartion* takinjr place. We »old at auction, ex Gazelle, from Wellington, 140 head, one and two-rears old, in very poor condition, at from A3 lo# to j£B per head. We may qnpte acclimatised bullock*. £Vi to £14 (nominal); mixed lot*, £» to £11 per head. Fat Sheep—The market has been for some time, and still remains, completely glutted, there beimr a jjroat number on hand which are hefd for higher prices. We hare made sales at auction at from '£2* to 32s per lie-sd, aecordinp to weight and quality. We «jnote jiriroe quality mutton 5d to 6d per lb. Second quality can only bo moved at store rates. Store Slitep—lmported weathers nre reiy unsaleable. Provincial l»red ewee. however, are in moderate demand. We have *old SKMJ wethers, ex Blackbird, from Melbourne. at 3li each, and 300 ditto, at 21s; also, 1,200 Provincial bred two-tooth ewes, at 30s each. Onr quotations are— ■wethers. Provincial bred. 23s to 255; ship ditto, Hβ to 20s; ewes. Provincial bred, 2.4, nnd fi-t00th,.283 to Sos. Station l'ropertr—Tlierv is a ixtaft enquiry for this class ofpropertv. sheep for .£5.500: and the run of V. Wentworth. Esq.. on the Five Kivers Haiti. -JOO.OOO acres of country with sheep, too head of cattle, and 299 horses, for £00,090. Horses—No material change has taken place since our last report. The current rates are -First-class draught, from .£.5 to £70; uiediuui <1 •. iVoni .1*36 to £45; inferior do, from iis to X.:ja; first-class hack and light harness, from ±2i; to .£35: medium ami useful hacks, from £17 to X2a ; inferior do, from £0 to £H.
