SYDNEY. The following report is from the' Morning Herald' of the alet.— A fair amount of business has boon transacted during the month, orders for the interior having come pretty freely to hand. The principal articles which have directed the attention of speculators have been flour and sugars, the pricesof which, as will be seen byourreport, have fluctuated considerably. In other articles there is no material movement to report. We subjoin the latest report of our markets. Flour—The market has been very firm, and an advance since last month of £7 to £7 10s per ton has taken place. Utocks arc literally exhausted, therefore holders for the present arc asking any rates they please. Several vessels are daily expected from Adelaide, and alno one or two from California, which may check the present upward tendency of prices. Sales of Adelaide flour have been made at £25 per ton, and the present quotation is nominally £24 to £25 per ton. The millers' quotations art, £25 for fine flour, and £23 for seconds. The cause of this sudden advance is owing to the crop in Melbourne being much less than was anticipated, and aHo to the destruction of our crop by rust Wheat has also been in great request, and prices have advanced 2s per bushel, 9s cash having been offered and refused for Adelaide wheat. Liquids continue very dull of sale, and with little doing. Brandy—Stocks arejheavy, and sales with difficulty effected; Marten's has given way from 3d to 6d per gallon, and is quoted at 8s 9d to 9s. Rum is pretty firm, and 30 o.p. is worth from 3s 2d to 3s 3d. Genera ia dull of sale, and prices unaltered ; first brands range from 9s 6dto 10s 6d. Whisky is also dull, and quoted at :is 3d to 3s od. Porter in bulk is dull of sale, and price unaltered. Bottled ale and porter are in moderate demand, aud first brands range from 8b fid to 9e Gd. Teas arc not quite so firm. Common congous in halfchests, have been sold from £5 lOa to £f>. Chests, however, are scarce, and have realised £6 fis to £6 ios. Fair congous, £7 10s to £8. Hysouskins are unsaleable, and prices nominal. Sugars are flatter, and prices have given way. Holders, however, do not appear anxious to force sales at reduced rates. The Sugar Company reduced their quotations this week from £2 to £4 per ton, according to the quality, l'ampanga has been sold at £27 per ton. Quotations for Mauritius sugars in the present state of the market are nominal. Coffee is steady. Plantation I2d per lb in bond. Caudles are not quite so firm, and have giveu way abont Adperlb; full weights are quoted at llsd to I2d; light weights 9d to 10d per lb. Colonial Produce—The wool market has been firmer, and where wools have been for absolute sale at auction, full rates have been obtained. The unsettled weather has, however, to some extent checked the arrival of wools from the Interior. At the weekly auction sales the attendance of buyers has been good, and the bidding pretty brisk. The latest quotations are: Fleece, Iβ 3d to Is 10d; scoured, Issd to 2a id; grease, 6jd to 11 Jd. Tallow—The market has been a little firmer, in eoneeouence of the small quantity to hand. Prices rule about the same as Inst month, viz, mutton, £32 to £34; mixed, £30 to £31; beef. £26 to £30. Hides—The market has been rather unsettled. Ordinal y ehiDPinjr parcels have been rather lower, while selected licavy hides and fit for tannin?, have realised higher rates. JTiccs from 7s to 14s each. Rice is not so firm, and as compared with Jaet month prices rule 20s per ton lower. Patiia is quoted £21 to £22 per ton Several shipments from Melbourne have armed here lately, and have been cold at the former rah\
Salt is dull of sale, and prices have given way 5s per ton. Liverpool is quoted at £& 10s per ton; fine £5 to .£5 5* per ton. Tobacco.—Stocks of old Viginian arc naturally becoming low, but our own manufacture and tlu- continuous imports of an inferior quality discourage sale*. Barratt. Kaveu, anil Korr, nr<- the only brands here of .Southern make, and itf which clocks are almost nil. We quote Barratt at 5s 6il; Itaveu and other brands at from 4s 6U to .« ; ."Southern tens almost extinct at from 2s yd to r»s ; half-pounds at about same ratfs ; Noi them negrohcad from 3s 6d to 4s; and tens hulk of stock held by speculators, at say 2s ; all original gold-leaf or or aiomatie, nearly absorbed.
